Jewel Toned Family Outfits

As a mom myself, I know the stress and worry that goes into updating your family portraits. Will my little loves cooperate come picture time? Will they smile naturally? Is mother nature going to throw us a curve ball? And the big one. Deciding what to wear for family pictures. I know this momma was worried about planning her family’s outfits. And we talked a lot about possible color schemes and ideas. But, she nailed it! Her jewel toned outfits paired with the vibrant fall colors made for stunning family photos.

And, my favorite part was that their session took place at their home! I love how much more meaningful these family portraits will be having been taken where they watch their children play everyday.

Jewel tones work great in the fall because the plums, teals and emerald greens look great against yellow and gold fall leaves. But the rich and vibrant tones can be intimidating to work with. My favorite tip is to keep the jewel toned color scheme balanced by adding in neutrals. The oldest daughter wore a denim dress and dad wore a blue plaid shirt and jeans. These outfits act more as neutrals to balance out the deep purples, teal blues and emerald greens that mom and the little sisters wore.

For example, mom wanted to make sure we captured pictures of her three girls together. Their outfits look great in the family picture but also look perfect when it’s just the three of them together.
